signature cocktails for every event & season

Whether you're hosting a dinner party or a wedding, signature cocktails are a fun way to get people buzzing (see what I did there?) about your event!

Not only do signature cocktails help incorporate your theme and serve as a beautiful visual element, they also show off your personality so that your wedding or event is more than just page 1 of Pinterest's latest trends. Now, the concept of a signature cocktail station has been popular for a while and many of the cocktail recipes are a bit boring and overused at this point. We put our thinking caps on and decided to give this fun trend a bit of a refreshing (last pun, I promise) new twist.

First thing is first; the signature cocktails do not need to be restricted only to the cocktail hour. Why not incorporate them throughout the whole evening with a signature cocktail for the cocktail reception, toast and the dance party!

Another thing; let's get creative with our beverages pulling from seasonal and local ingredients. Keep in mind that seasonal doesn't have to mean going super literal by sticking pumpkins and leaves all over the place, but you can still do a subtle nod to the season by using those flavours and smells that we inherently crave during certain times of the year. As for the buying local part, isn't it way nicer to support a small, local company that helps feed right into your city's economy? Ottawa has some of the best distillers and breweries out there, with some really unique flavours that are perfect for that specialty cocktail you're mixing up!

Finally, throw those boring old recipes out the window; your guests can get those drinks in any bar in the world. Let's mix things up (okay, now the puns are done) with some brand new recipes that your guests will go crazy for! To help with this I reached out to Lisa Grierson of Cocktail Mondays, and asked her to create some brand new recipes just for you! Naturally the Bourbon & Bloom team hosted a little styled shoot/mixer in the Tester Bar to mix up a few of these recipes. You know... for research purposes. Make sure to scroll all the way to the end to get the full list and cocktail recipes!

After coming home from work one Monday evening and deciding that a a gin and tonic was exactly what she needed, Lisa Grierson quickly realized that this was something that needed to be repeated, every Monday.
