Moody Boho Chic Wedding with a Craft Beer Twist

From the first moment I sat down with Ali and James, I knew it was going to be a fun wedding. These two already had a pretty unique story, meeting through World of Warcraft, living in different cities and were actually dating other people. There's a reason they say love finds a way.

For these two star-crossed lovers they wanted something a little different than your standard summer wedding vibes for their August wedding in Ottawa, so we needed to get a little outside of the box with our design. Instead of the go-to bright and airy summer classic wedding colour palette, Ali & James wanted something a little darker and moodier, buuut they were drawn to the outdoorsy, organic feels as well. Well, hello moody boho dreams! We pulled in gorgeous shades from the burgundy fam and offset it with muted greens and a little pop of navy for their darker side.

Their floral arrangements and bouquets, from Capital Florist, are what boho dreams are made of - with all kinds of texture pulled in from massive proteas, dahlias and astilbe, and the deepest shades of burgundy popping against soft blush-whites and loosely framed greenery.

Ali & James are also big craft beer lovers and wanted to ensure that was incorporated into the bar plan. Not only did we bring in a selection of kegs from Perth Brewery, we also took the craft beer love to the next level by incorporating it into their design, using the couple's personal collection of beer growlers as a seating chart and for other signage elements.

They other key detail about Ali and James is that they are the sweetest, most thoughtful, laid-back, fun-loving couple. Every time we chatted design or details, they were always thinking about their guests and the experience. They just wanted everyone to have great food and beer, and have a ton of fun throughout the whole evening.

A seated, plated dinner was not at all their thing, as they wanted something more interactive and engaging for their guests. So we had Meatings Barbecue come up with a completely custom menu of live action food stations for the dinner, with all their summer faves like tacos, sliders and deep fried zucchini sticks. Finally, to make sure their guests were rocking out all night long, we brought in one of the hippest Ottawa wedding bands, The Casual Affairs, who pumped up the jams so hard that people... well... see for yourself.
