hottest outfits for summer weddings
Ladies, the struggle is definitely real. You hit a certain age where all your friends are engaged, and the wedding invites just keep rolling in. Theoretically, you could dress, rock, repeat, but let's get real; there's no way you're going to be caught on camera wearing the same dress more than once in the same wedding season. That's why I partnered up with one of my favourite Ottawa bloggers, Emily of What Emily Said, and asked her to hit up some of Ottawa's best boutiques on the hunt for the hottest summer finds that will have you on all the wedding best dressed lists this season.
Big thanks to Emily for all the incredible, local finds, and to Emma of Photography by Emma for capturing all these stunning outfits.
Emily is a life and style blogger in Ottawa, sharing affordable fashion finds, style tips, and recipes.

Wedding season is my favourite season! I'm at that age where every summer is littered with weddings and as a result, I'm always on the lookout for something to wear! This summer is a great example. I have 4 weddings to attend - all at different venues with different dress codes, so picking the right outfit to match the expectations of the celebration can be a challenge!
Typically your invitation it will indicate or imply what the dress code will be for the occasion. It's not always easy to find something that matches the dress code and ensures comfort, breathability (key for summer weddings!) and allow you to dance on the dance floor all night long. To help you find the perfect piece to wear for a wedding, I've rounded up a few of the best picks in Ottawa - all at different price ranges to ensure there is something for every budget. This list is exclusive to dresses but don't rule out jumpsuits and separates as a different option (and one of my favourite options!) to wear to a wedding.
The Little Black Dress
J.Crew, $95 at AMH Style
I found this dress at a local consignment store, AMH Style. This trendy boutique is located in Westboro and is full of pieces for any occasion. Weddings can add up once you factor in a gift, travel costs, parties and showers, and a new outfit, so why not give second hand a try? All of the pieces at AMH Style are in great condition and you can feel good knowing the piece you picked is getting a second chance at love! The nice thing about a LBD is that you can have fun with your accessories! Throw on a colourful pair of shoes or a statement piece of jewelry and you've just breathed new life into your consigned find.
Ruffled Midi Dress
Paper Crown, $120 at AMH Style
It just goes to show how incredible it is to check out a consignment store. I couldn't leave with just one piece - there were so many to choose from! This tiered midi dress by Paper Crown is the perfect shade of dusty blue and much like the LBD, it can be accessorized to achieve the look you want! This dress is still on Paper Crown's website (the Britton dress!) if you wanted to pick it up new, but it's double the price. Can we also acknowledge the way this dress moves? You'll tear up the dance floor with your flirty two-tiered number!
Blush Lace Fit and Flare BB Dakota, $135 at Viens Avec Moi
Fit and flare dresses are my go to! I usually shop with the intention to try something different and when all else fails, I fall back to the trusty fit and flare. This particular BB Dakota dress is elegant and feminine, and would fit a backyard garden party with a pair of wedges or for a semi-formal dress code with a pair of strappy sandals, as I styled it! Fit and flare will never go out out style. If this particular dress isn't what you're looking for, I can guarantee Viens Avec Moi will have something for you! They have a selection of designer pieces at a price range that will suit any budget, from skirts to maxi dresses, to separates. Swing in and visit the girls at the shop for great service and an even better selection!
Coral Knotted Dress
Tiger of Sweden, $269 at Vincent Boutique
This midi length dress is a flattering material that hugs all the right places. The knotted detail around the waist is a noticeable detail that elevates this dress to be something a little more than your regular midi. Although this dress is the highest price point out of this selection, it is worth every penny. This is one of those dresses that will take you from day to night. With the appropriate accessories, this dress would be the right fit for a semi-formal or formal dress code! Pop in to see the ladies of Vincent on Preston Street to peruse their carefully curated collection of pieces. You won't leave disappointed and you'll feel like a million bucks at the next wedding you go to!
Arroh and Bow Infinity Dress Custom made from The Handmade Bride
These infinity dresses are incredible. They are available in two lengths - cocktail or maxi - and can be styled in infinite ways to make this dress different every time you wear it! This dress is perfect for a wedding! You can alter the style to match the dress code for the wedding you're attending. In this instance I paired mine with my leather jacket for an edgier look and to make it a bit more casual. This link will give you an idea of ways to tie the dress! The nice thing about this dress too is that it can go beyond being a dress to wear to a wedding. You can alter this dress to fit all of your needs. It's hard to argue with a dress that can have capped sleeves, strapless the next, and halter style all within a few minutes. You could even get this dress and wear it to multiple weddings (given that it meets the dress code expectations!) and style it differently every time to feel like a brand new piece.
This is just a small sample of what's available here in Ottawa! I'd encourage you to stop into the local boutiques and consignment stores and check out the unique pieces that are at your fingertips! If shopping in boutiques is out of your budget, don't rule out second hand stores. Big box stores are great, but there's always a chance you and another guest could show up wearing the same dress!
Happy wedding season!
